What to see in Augusta

Augusta, located along the eastern coast of Sicily, is a town rich in history, breathtaking landscapes, and a unique gastronomic tradition. Founded in 728 BC as Megara Iblea, it became a thriving Greek colony until its final destruction in 202 BC by Roman troops. In the 13th century, Frederick II of Swabia founded Augusta Veneranda, which soon became one of his favorite locations. Augusta played a strategic role in military affairs, as evidenced by the construction of the Aragonese castle. In the 17th century, the removal of the isthmus transformed Augusta into an island with two ports and a large salt pan. Today, Augusta is a port town connected to the mainland by two bridges.
